The power behind sharing personal stories is its ability to stir empathy and connection. It forges relatedness and helps teammates understand what is important to you; why (and often how) you do what you do. So, what’s your story? The questions below are meant to guide sharing yours to any degree comfortable. Depending on time, pick two to three:

  • What in your personal or professional life makes you feel proud?
  • What’s a belief or value from your upbringing that still affects how you act?
  • Can you think of a difficult time in your life that taught you something valuable? How do you apply that lesson today?
  • When you’re feeling stressed, what helps you calm down or find balance?
  • What’s something that really triggers you emotionally?
  • How do you typically handle conflict? Has your approach changed over time?
  • Has there been someone who influenced you a lot, like a mentor or role model? What’s something you learned from them?
  • What’s something you’ve learned about yourself recently that surprised you?
